This year marks the 10th anniversary of Get the Site Right, a collaborative program helping to prevent sediment runoff from construction sites from polluting NSW waterways.
From 24–28 August, participating councils inspected building sites during the campaign’s Blitz Week, encouraging improved compliance following the March campaign. While 79% of sites inspected in March were compliant overall, compliance in the Sydney metropolitan area was only 44%.
Blitz Week coincided with the release of new Erosion and Sediment Control Factsheets by the NSW Department of Planning, Housing and Infrastructure. Available in six languages, the resources provide practical guidance to help everyone working on building sites understand their responsibilities and follow best practice.
The anniversary will also be marked by the Get the Site Right Erosion and Sediment Control Forum in October. Minister for Water and Housing Rose Jackson will deliver the keynote address, with government representatives and industry practitioners exploring ways to strengthen erosion and sediment control across NSW.
